After traveling around the city trying every Sunday Brunch Buffet offered around Wichita, we make our way out west to Spears Restaurant and Pie Shop.4323 W Maple St.Wichita, KS 67209316-943-2783Sunday Brunch from 10:30am – 2pmCash/Card acceptedThe buffet runs $11.99 per person. Kids 10 and under eat for half that price while 5 and under are free. If you want tea, it’s an extra $1.99.The actual look of the buffet line at Spears resembles what one would see at an outdoor wedding.
Don’t go here expecting something fancy like a YaYa’s or Newport Grill.The items included on the buffet line range from roast beef and ham to meatballs to fried chicken to many of your breakfast staples. Here’s a glance of what to expect.
For taste and quality, it wasn’t close to what one would find at the higher end Sunday Brunch Buffets. This was something more along the lines of a Furr’s or a Golden Corral with the average diner being twice my age. If anything, everybody there was extremely nice to me and kept making suggestions on what I should grab from the buffet line. Either they were being honest or had me get items they didn’t like to keep more of what they liked for themselves. If so, I like their moves!
For the record, many people there recommended the fried chicken yet there was so much left and I found to be very bland.There wasn’t anything overly special about the food at Spears for me and likely not one I’d attend again given the distance.Most likely the biggest draw to Spears buffet though is their pies. They have so many different options to choose from. While walking back to my table, I noticed customers would have 2-3 pies a person. Sugar High Sundays in effect.At $11.99, I would have rather gone to a regular breakfast restaurant and ordered of the menu.

PIC COS by VD. KDA350118A2 - -Diced Ham, Diced Turkey and Diced Tomatoes in metal containers in the WIC were not dated. PIC said that they were prepared on 12/28.
PIC COS by date marking. KDA420211A2 - -Two plastic containers stored and stacked as clean on top of the RIFs had visible cracking and chips on the corner. PIC COS by discarding the containers. KDA450111B - -MT door seal and RIF door seal were not intact and tight fitting. KDA450112 - -Cutting board on the MT had scoring and scratching making it difficult to effectively clean and sanitize. PIC COS by removing, washing, sanitizing and rotating to smooth side. KDA460111A - -A knife stacked and stored as clean had visible soiling.
Container that utensils were stored in had food debris. PIC COS by moving both items to be washed, rinsed, and sanitized. KDA460111C - -The door seals on RIFs in kitchen had accumulation of dust, dirt, or food residue. Non cooking surfaces of the grill had visible accumulation of dust, dirt, and food residue.
Grill hood had visible food and grease accumulation. KDA460212B - -Microwave oven in the kitchen had visible food debris on the sides and ceiling of interior. PIC indicated that microwaves should be cleaned daily.
KDA520315 - -Facility had a Pepsi soda machine installed on 09/2015. The carbonator device that did not have a visible dual check valve with an intermediate vent preceded by a screen and the machine was not marked with a sticker indicating the machine was protected. PIC contacted Pepsi to have machine checked and either corrected with dual check valve and intermediate vent or marked if devices are internally installed. KDA610111A - -Facility had missing tiles and cracks on floors near floor drains that are not easily cleanable and smooth. KDA620214 - -Employee toilet room did not have a self closing door. KDA630112 - -Ware washing handwashing sink did not have a supply of paper towels.
